APDR Strategic Plan
Vision:
The APDR aspires to be the premier professional association in radiology
dedicated to the
needs of radiology residency and fellowship program directors.
Mission
Statement:
The mission of the APDR is to support the administrative, educational,
recruitment, and
supervisory roles of radiology residency and fellowship program
directors through the
sponsorship of meetings, development of educational materials and
policy statements,
collaboration with related societies and organizations, and communication
of information
relative to the current and changing regulatory requirements of
radiology training
programs.
Strategic Plan (short-term – 2
year goals):
1. The APDR will establish closer working relationships with radiology
societies
interested in the education of residents and fellows. Specific
programs will be
developed based on the specific relationships. For instance,
with AMSER, APDR
might develop a common teaching tool such as electronic teaching
aides. With the
American Board of Radiology, APDR would work to incorporate the
core
competencies into the written and oral ABR examinations. With
APCR, APDR could
collaborate on ways to increase the efficiency of managing radiology
residency
programs. APDR could develop a closer relationship with SCARD
to give the chairs
a more complete understanding of the duties, time commitment
and problems related
to being a radiology program director.
2. The APDR will continue to develop and plan its annual meeting
with affiliated
societies to provide the best educational program for all attendees.
3. The APDR will investigate ways to teach, to evaluate and to
show improvement in
teaching and evaluating the six core competencies that have
been developed for
residency training.
4. The APDR will continue to improve its website to allow more
effective communication with its members.
5. The APDR will develop the most effective strategy for
the management of the
society. This needs to be concluded within the next six
to twelve months.
6. The APDR will continue to work with SCARD to reach an
agreement on non-clinical
protected time and financial compensation for program
directors.
