2009 Vascular/Interventional Radiology Fellowship at University of Illinois in Peoria
One-year vascular-interventional fellowships are now available at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, Illinois beginning July 2009. This one-year position will provide an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of vascular and interventional radiology. The fellowship offers extensive vascular training with aortic aneurysm repair with endoluminal grafts, endovascular treatment of peripheral vascular disease, multiple clinical trials, IVC filters, bare stents and others. We perform uterine fibroid embolization, interventional oncology, venous access, hemodialysis graft maintenance, percutaneous imaging guided procedures, and more. Join 4 dedicated full-time interventional radiology attendings and 5 advanced practice nurses for a dynamic year of instruction. You will rotate through our non-invasive vascular lab, become proficient in triaging and reading CTAs and MRAs of the aorta, mesenteric and peripheral arteries, and also become familiar with running an outpatient office and an inpatient admitting and consultation service. You will rotate through our outpatient interventional vascular clinic, learn EVLT and sclerotherapy. The fellowship stands out among its peers as a strong vascular training program- but is not limited to arterial vascular cases alone.
The fellowship is affiliated with OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, which is a 616 bed Level I Trauma Center. The hospital provides 4 dedicated IR angiography suites with the latest technology including flat panel detectors and 3-D reconstruction of blood vessels. We have several latest generation US machines, a dedicated CT scanner for percutaneous procedures and a dedicated vascular lab. Several 1.5 T MRI machines are used for cross-sectional vascular imaging. Our not-for-profit research foundation, the Peoria Radiology Research & Education Foundation, provides us with ample opportunity for clinical research and trial participation. 2009-2010 Breast Imaging Fellowship at Susan G. Komen Breast Center in Peoria
One-year Breast Imaging Fellowships are currently available at the Susan G. Komen Breast Center in Peoria, Illinois beginning July 2009 and July 2010. This one-year position will provide an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of Breast Imaging and Intervention, including breast ultrasound, breast MRI and interventional procedures, stereotactic core biopsy, ultrasound-guided core biopsy, cyst aspiration, fine needle aspiration, ductography, and wire localizations for surgical resection. Approximately 24,000 screening cases are evaluated and 8,000 diagnostic studies are performed each year at the Susan G. Komen Breast Center. Approximately 1,600 interventional procedures as well as 5,550 breast ultrasound examinations are performed each year by radiologists. In addition, over 350 breast MRI exams and approximately 100 MR-guided core biopsies are performed annually. Research opportunities are also available to those with research interest.
The fellowship is through the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the Susan G. Komen Breast Center and OSF St. Francis Medical Center, a 616 bed Level I Trauma Center. It is staffed by four Breast Imaging Radiologists and a dedicated group of technologists and clerical staff. The facilities include the Susan G. Komen Breast Center and four (4) outlying screening sites which together have eleven (11) mammographic units, one of which currently is a GE full-field digital Senographe 2000 D Unit. All facilities will be entirely digital with Hologic equipment by January 2009. In addition, the Susan G. Komen Breast Center is equipped with three (3) dedicated breast ultrasound units, a LoRad Multicare DSM dedicated prone table stereotactic unit with Suros ATEC biopsy system, a Second Look CADx (computer-aided detection) unit, a 1.5 tesla MRI unit with a dedicated breast coil and Suros ATEC biopsy system, and a Hologic bone densitometry unit.

We currently have one available position.
Our goal and our mission here, both in the Department, and as a University of California School of Medicine and Medical Center, are to provide an excellent educational experience to produce the best trained fellows possible. The goal of the Division Director and Musculoskeletal Fellowship Director is to educate fellows who will go on to become leaders in the subspecialty of musculoskeletal radiology. We believe that we provide an optimal combination of, and balance between, study and procedure volume, experience with sequencing/protocoling, academic time, and optional research time, to produce very knowledgeable, balanced musculoskeletal radiologists, with a cutting-edge knowledge of the subspecialty.
Fellows will be considered junior level faculty at UC Irvine Medical Center, and will have the benefits and privileges of this position through the University of California, Irvine. 2009-2010 Nuclear Oncology/PET-CT Clinical Fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Insitute The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Nuclear Medicine Oncologic Program is accepting applications from MD/MD-PhD affiliates for a one-year Nuclear Oncology/PET-CT Fellowship for July 2009 with the opportunity of a second year extension.
The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is designated as a Comprehensive Center by the National Cancer Institute. The clinical fellowship will provide physicians with advanced clinical imaging training in oncology with a focus on PET-CT and cross-sectional imaging. Fellows also have the opportunity to participate in various clinical research projects. Major areas of interest include molecular imaging, evaluation of molecularly-targeted drugs, new PET radiopharmaceuticals, tumor metrics, and core laboratory support for local, national, and global trials. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is an affiliate of the Harvard Medical School Joint Program in Nuclear Medicine.
Eligibility:
Completion of the USMLE parts I, II, and III, and American Board of Radiology (ABR) and/or American Board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM)-eligible or certified.

Unexpected opening for a 2008-2009 Oncoradiology Clinical Fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
The Oncoradiology Fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) provides extensive experience in body imaging including MRI, CT, PET/CT, and US in adult patients with cancer. Subspecialty training with a focus on breast imaging and/or PET/CT is also available.
Equipment and resources:
State-of-the-art equipment includes 64-slice CT, 1.5-T and 3-T MRI, PET/CT, digital radiography, US, digital mammography and gamma camera systems. The DFCI also serves as a core imaging analysis laboratory for imaging studies performed in the context of local, national, and global clinical trials, and is in the process of creating a Center for Biomedical Imaging in Oncology (CBIO) that will oversee all pre-clinical and clinical imaging research performed at the DFCI and in a new 14,000 square feet facility dedicated to pre-clinical imaging.
Rotation Overview:
• Approximately 60% of the fellowship entails body imaging including CT, MRI, and US imaging of the chest, abdomen, pelvis and extremities.
• Approximately 20% of the time is divided between nuclear oncology . Nuclear oncology includes PET/CT and gamma camera imaging.
• A breast imaging rotation may also be available, if requested.
• Approximately 20% of the fellow’s time can be dedicated to research assuming that a detailed research project outline has been presented and approved by an attending radiologist as the project mentor. Research milestone schedules are clearly articulated and research progress is closely monitored.
• Approximately one month of the Oncoradiology Fellowship is designated elective time. Elective time may be spent on approved research projects, or in other subspecialties at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH).
• On-call responsibilities consist of weekend day coverage.
Teaching/Conference Responsibilities:
Participation in various clinical conferences is encouraged. Daily didactic teaching sessions are provided by DFCI Radiology faculty. Continual educational contact is provided five days per week, from 8:00AM until 6:00 PM. The Oncoradiology Fellow is required to attend and present at the Thoracic Oncology Conference every Tuesday morning and at the Radiology-Oncology Pathology Conference every Friday morning.
Fellowship Supervision and Evaluation:
DFCI Oncoradiology Fellows will receive continuous on-site training, teaching and feedback. Dr. Fiona Fennessy, Director of the DFCI Oncoradiology Fellowship Program, and Dr. Annick D. Van den Abbeele, Chief of the Department of Radiology, DFCI, will evaluate the fellow’s performance.
Eligibility:
U.S. applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in radiology. Foreign applicants must be ECFMG certified and eligible to obtain a clinical visa prior to starting the fellowship. The fellowship at DFCI is structured in accordance with the fellowship regulations as provided by the Department of Radiology at BWH.

Cardiac Imaging Fellowship
A 2-year fellowship in Cardiovascular Imaging is offered at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center beginning July 2009. The training program offers candidates an opportunity to participate in the future growth and performance of cardiac imaging studies using cardiac CT and cardiac MRI. The fellow will participate in a variety of cardiac imaging research projects as well as in the clinical activities of the cardiac imaging section in the Department of Imaging. At least 50% of the fellow’s time is spent in clinical research.
Candidates must have completed or be currently enrolled in a GME approved cardiology or radiology program, and prior knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology is a pre-requisite. Proven research interest and capability is highly desirable.

Neuroradiology Fellowship
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles is offering a 1-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Neuroradiology. This is an unexpected opening for the 2009-2010 academic year. The curriculum provides individualized training in the full gamut of neuroradiology and prepares you for eligibility for a Certificate of Added Qualification in neuroradiology. A second-year fellowship is also available. The program incorporates core training and research opportunities for a comprehensive academic and clinical training experience. Body Imaging Fellowship Opening for 2009-2010

This one-year fellowship includes experience in Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Four (4) months are spent in each of three (3) Baylor College of Medicine affiliated hospitals located in the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world.
Ben Taub General Hospital is a 588 bed acute care hospital and level I trauma center with a large neighborhood clinic network.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital is a 909 bed tertiary care hospital associated with a nearby outpatient imaging facility and the Texas Heart Institute.
The Methodist Hospital is a 1269 bed hospital which emphasizes MRI of the body, vascular and musculoskeletal systems.
Interpretation of a large volume of pathologically interesting cases under the supervision of staff radiologists at each institution.

The Department of Radiology at The University of Chicago has two abdominal imaging fellowship positions for July 2009. The University of Chicago Hospitals is a 675 bed-licensed hospital and the department performs 300,000 exams per year.
The Abdominal Imaging Fellowship is a one-year comprehensive fellowship comprising clinical, teaching, and research activity in all aspects of abdominal imaging using all available modalities, including dedicated MRI rotations. The clinical experience combines a regional population of patients providing a strong base of emergency and primary presentation exams with a strong outpatient and inpatient tertiary referral center providing a high volume of oncology, surgery, gastroenterology, transplantation and emergency referrals. CT focuses on problem solving, detailed and tailored examinations, such as multiphase hepatic CT, renal and adrenal mass characterization and negative contrast luminal examinations. Fellows will learn to perform and interpret 3D CT angiography, CT enterography, CT urography, CT colonography and other cutting-edge diagnostic studies.
The MRI experience includes dedicated liver, pancreas, adrenal, renal and pelvic imaging including MR angiography, cholangiography, prostate MRI, MR enterography and fetal MRI. This rotation also affords the Fellow the opportunity to participate in non-abdominal applications if desired.
Ultrasound offers the gamut of abdominal studies, small parts ultrasound, and percutaneous biopsies, as well as color and spectral Doppler vascular and transplant studies. Fellows have the opportunity to gain additional expertise in vascular ultrasound and ob-gyn ultrasound as needed. Fellows can participate in a wide gamut of gastrointestinal and genitourinary examinations.
Our cutting edge equipment includes six superconducting magnets, with a second 3.0T magnet to be installed this year, six multislice helical CT scanners, including 64 slice capability (and a 256 slice scanner to be installed this year), an all Acuson/Siemens ultrasound area and digital fluoroscopy. The Department is comprised of almost 50 clinical and research faculty.
Fellows participate in resident teaching and are encouraged to participate in research and publication by either joining ongoing projects or initiating a new project with a faculty mentor and dedicated academic time.

VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY FELLOWSHIP
A one-year Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship beginning July 1, 2008 is available at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The VIR Section works closely with clinical services at Montefiore, including Vascular Surgery, Urology, Gastroenterology, and General Surgery. Approximately 2000 cases are performed per year. There is an emphasis on cardiovascular diagnosis and intervention with approximately 200 arterial and venous angioplasties performed yearly. Transcatheter thrombolysis, embolization, intravascular stents, IVC filter placements and TIPS procedures are also performed routinely. Fellows are also responsible for nonvascular interventional procedures, eg. biliary drainage and stents, percutaneous nephrostomies, ureteral stents, and abscess drainage. The Section also participates in all vascular imaging. Fellows will have ample opportunity to participate in the stent graft program at Montefiore. In addition to a fully paid conference week, our fellows attend the AIM Symposium (Advanced Interventional Management) which we run in New York. This is a national, highly rated meeting which energizes the fellowship by bringing new procedures and technology to our lab. Because of the volume and variety of clinical material, there is opportunity for research and publication if desired.

St. Francis Hospital, a teaching affiliate hospital of University of Connecticut, is now offering a 1 year integrated MRI fellowship. The objective of this fellowship is to provide residents with a comprehensive education in all facets of MRI interpretation. The specific focus is for preparing newly trained graduates to function as an MRI reader in any practice environment.
Details include:
1)Caseload will include approximately 50-60% neurological (including brain, spine, ENT, spectroscopy, MRA), 25-35% MSK, 15% body (including breast, cardiac, vascular and abdominal). Fellows can do higher percentage of cases in msk or body if desired.
2)Good mixture of inpatient and outpatient cases. Busy trauma service and Heme-Onc center. Busy sports medicine, neurosurgery services. Ability to perform arthrographies and spine procedures if desired. Ability to perform coronary CTA available (approx. 3-5 cases/day).
3)Daily total caseload is ~55-65 cases/day, individual caseload per fellow is at own pace.
4)Light call schedule. No overnight call.
5)$60,000 base salary with potential for internal moonlighting.
6)Located in Hartford Connecticut, approx 2hr from NYC and Boston.
7)Will have the opportunity to attend arthroscopies if desired, not a requirement.
8)Up to 3 months elective time available, if desired, not required.

The Department of Diagnostic Imaging at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is offering fellowship positions in Abdominal Imaging for the academic year 2009-2010.
This one year ACGME-accredited abdominal imaging clinical fellowship will provide 12 months of structured comprehensive training in all phases of abdominal radiology. The fellowship includes 10 months of service rotations divided among (1) abdominal and pelvic MRI, (2) cross-sectional guided diagnostic (biopsy, drainage) and therapeutic (radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation) interventional procedures, and (3) inpatient and outpatient diagnostic CT and US. There are also 2 months of elective time which can be used by the candidate for training in any other area of their choosing, such as cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, musculoskeletal MRI, GI and/or GU radiology, etc. Training is in the tertiary care North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Ten multi-slice CT scanners (three of which are 64-slice scanners), and five MRI scanners (one of which is 3T), and 10 US scanners are in place. CT fluoroscopy is used for interventional procedures. A brand new outpatient imaging center with additional CT, MR and US scanners is expected to be completed before July, 2009. High volume clinical services are matched by constant close interaction between fellows and 12 highly experienced abdominal attending radiologists to insure in-depth experience. One-on-one interaction between attending and fellow in body MRI is emphasized. Daily afternoon conferences review all significant cases for the entire year. An abdominal imaging Journal Club, and multi-disciplinary conferences with clinicians are conducted constantly throughout the year to supplement the daily service coverage.
