APCR Board of Directors: 2019-2020
Basia works as the Director Medical Education Programs, in the Department of Radiology & Medical Imaging, at the University of Virginia. She oversees the residency and fellowships, medical student electives, and nursing/NP, PA observerships. She manages two coordinators who provide day-to-day operational support to these programs. She has been in the Department for ten years.
Prior to that, she was the residency coordinator, and oversaw the fellowships and medical student electives in Pathology for five years. She was ‘head-hunted’ by a past chief resident in Radiology to come and work for their program as their residency coordinator in 2010.
Before life at UVA, She worked for Reuters (now Thomson Reuters) for sixteen years. She was very fortunate to have wonderful positions that allowed her to travel all over Europe. One of those opportunities brought her to New York City, and life in America.
Basia loves what she does; is extremely interested in medical education which makes her faculty very happy as some find these things quite tedious, however, Basia gets a huge kick out of looking for solutions or new ways to do things. Basia has amazing support from her faculty, residents and fellows, without whom, she would not enjoy her work, plus they keep her sane!
Basia has been at the University for fifteen years. She never thought she would be there that long but when you love what you do, you don’t notice time. She holds a BA from Mary Baldwin University in Psychology/Sociology. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Medical Education from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
