Why are Diversity Equity and Inclusion Important

a) Diversity, Inclusion, and Representation: It is Time to Act. (Lightfoote, 2016)

Many professional medical societies, including the ACR, have recognized the importance of enhancing diversity and improve inclusiveness. This study presents the current state of diversity in radiology and discusses barriers to improving a diverse radiology workforce.

b) Improving Diversity, Inclusion, and Representation in Radiology and Radiation Oncology part 1: Why These Matter. (Lightfoote, 2014)

This article discusses why diversity and inclusivity are important and provides a business case for enhancing representation of underrepresented minorities, women and LGBT in radiology.

c) The Diversity Matters Project (McKinsey & Company, 2015)

Research aimed at analyzing the relationship between diversity in the workforce and financial performance of companies. The study summarizes how diversity enhances talent recruitment, improves customer orientation, increases employment satisfaction, and allows for better decision making and innovation.

d) Diversity Matters in Academic Radiology. (Allen, 2016)

A review that explores the impediments to creating a diverse radiology workforce and identifies ways to remove those barriers such as managing unconscious bias.
